2011 PPPAmerica National Specialty

Beautiful Pleasanton, California was the setting for the 2nd Annual PPPAmerica National Specialty held on October 22, 2011. This was the 1st one since being named AKC Parent Club, and a very joyous occasion as participants were also able to show in Misc Class in the AKC All Breed Shows that were part of the Harvest Moon Classic in the preceding and succeeding days.

8 Casa de Maio PPPequenos Qualified!

An exciting e-mail arrived from the AKC today. The qualifying period for this year’s AKC/Eukanuba National Championship has ended, there are 47 PPPequenos who have qualified, and 8 of them are our breeding! We are so proud of all of their owners for not only being such super “mommies & daddies” to our kids, but also for being such great ambassadors for the breed in AKC conformation.

Four of them (Honor, Daisy, Miguel & Cristo) have already earned their Certificate of Merit title also (The CM is the Miscellaneous Class equivalent of Champion) YEAH!

Honor, Hope, Daisy, Miguel, & Lucy, are sired by Cristo. He’s pretty proud of them, and of his granddaughter, Brokenroad’s Show Me the Bunny CM (Harmony), who is also qualified & was the first PPPequeno to earn a CM. He’s looking forward to a Family Reunion in Orlando in December. The PPPequenos show in Miscellaneous Class for the first time on Sunday, Dec 18th, 2011.

The PPPAmerica, AKC Parent Club, will have a Meet the Breeds booth and offer a Judges’ Education during the weekend also.

The quality of the dogs was excellent at the 22nd Monográfica held at Caldas de Rainha today. Judges were Pedro Delarue & Ricardo Pereira Leite...

Another great Premier Weekend...

Twenty seven podengos and their people attended the UKC Premier in Kalamazoo this past weekend, and a great time was had by all! I didn’t have any dogs with me but I attended to cheer on those who did and enjoy a wonderful weekend.
The weekend kicked off with the Top Ten Competition which was won by Houla’s Border Partrol (Tango) bred by Carol Houlihan, TX, and owned by Susan & Stacy Faw & Partrica Reisert, IN.
This was followed by the 1st Specialty put on by the newly formed United Portuguese Podengo Club. The Judge for the event was xxx and Hercules da Terra de Montoito, (Astro) bred by Miguel & Ines Rebelo, Portugal & owned by Sandy Truitt, IA was Best in Specialty Show.
There were regular UKC shows on Friday, Saturday & Sunday during which podengos competed very successfully. Several became new Champions and Guiso de Veiros became a Grand Champion.
On Saturday evening the Parade of Portugal, a Specialty for Portuguese Breeds & judged by Portuguese judge, Pedro Sanches Delarue, was held. There were wonderful examples of Perdiguero (Portuguese Pointers), Cao de Serra de Estrella (Estrela Mountain Dogs) and Cao d’Agua Portugues (Portuguese Water Dogs) exhibited. Best of Breed for the podengos was the medio wire Ally’s Full August Moon (Zeke), bred by Allison Jones & Mary Dixon and owned by Carol Sowders
